Welcome to the Silicon Valley Burlesque Academy

Burlesque is a powerful medium. It combines subversive storytelling with the power of the liberated body, and it allows you to express yourself in ways that conventional storytelling or dance may not be able to.

You do not need a background in dance to tell your story with burlesque. You do not need to twirl tassels or perform feats of strength or flexibility. All you need is a good idea and a body.

We can help you tell your story, no matter what your experience level.

Whether you’re just looking to learn the bump and grind or get your hands dirty with choreography and storytelling, you can take lessons with us, either in person or using the magic of the internet.

About DeeDee Queen

DeeDee Queen is a drag queen trapped in a cis-woman’s body—a performing woman who is performing “woman.”

She is a burlesque, pole, and drag artist from California’s Bay Area, but has performed all over the country.

She teaches burlesque and storytelling and co-produces Curtains Cabaret, a theatrical burlesque company in Redwood City. She is also the producer of the forthcoming show, Nearly Naked Broadway: A Broadway Burlesque Revue.

DeeDee recently developed and produced a feminist one-woman burlesque show, which she workshopped at 54 Below in New York City and performed in Redwood City.

She has been seen at the California Burlypicks (2016), Hawaii Burlesque Festival (2016), Vermont Burlesque Festival (2017), Great Burlesque Expo (2017), Freezing Tassel in Alaska (2017), Philadelphia Burlesque Festival (2017), Hollywood Burlesque Festival (2017), Oregon Burlesque Festival (2017), Hawaii Burlesque Festival (2017), and the Amsterdam Burlesque Awards (2017). She also won a gold medal for Level 3 Entertainment at the Pacific Pole Championships in 2016.

In her muggle life, she has been performing in theatre since she was 8 years old. She started teaching theatre/assistant directing when she was 15, and she led the award-winning drama department at Olympic Heights Community High School when she was only 21 years old. She went to school for dramatic writing and dramaturgy, and she's worked extensively with performers, directors, and other creative people on creating stories and characters

Using her background in theatre and performance, she can help you get started, get in touch with your body, build a character, create choreography, and tell your story. As an experienced teacher, She'll help guide you toward your goals, whether it’s to become a performer yourself OR just have a good time for an afternoon.

We look forward to adding some glitter to your journey!
